John Glover
Glover is best known now for his paintings of the Tasmanian landscape. He gave a fresh treatment to the effects of the Australian sunlight on the native bushland by depicting it bright and clear, a definite departure from the darker "English country garden" paradigm.

Set in 7 hectares on the banks of the South Esk River, Clarendon was the centre of a large pastoral enterprise developed by James Cox. Complete with servants wing and many farm buildings the House is surrounded by extensive gardens and parkland's.
When the National Trust took over the residence was in a crumbling state of disrepair. When you look at the top of the internal doors you see a 3cm gap at one end, a testimony of how much the building sank.
