Narrabri

Mount Kaputar NP

About 36 km east of Narrabri
is one of the areas attractions, Sawn Rocks.
This rock formation is one of Australias best examples
of the geological process "organ-piping".
The molten lava flow slowly cooled and formed crystals of rock.

The Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA), just outside Narrabri
at the Paul Wild Observatory, is an array of six 22 metre antennas used for radio astronomy

Pilliga Bore.
We stayed and bathed it the 37 degree C bore pool
on the way to Coonamble.

Bingara

There is a great camp site 6 Kms from Bingara
on the banks of the Gwydir River.

The birdlife is prolific including these two Herons.

View of the Bingara township from the lookout.

 Two more BT's joined us.
Bryn, Theresa, Todd and Sally from Sydney and Port MacQuarrie.

Todd and Bryn had new Chevrolet Silverado's so I
was in Chevy heaven.

Todd, Sally, Chris and myself went into town and did a tour of the
recently restored Roxy Theatre .

I loved this Peanut dispenser.

File pic of the original floor which was discovered hidden under carpet.

"Where's the jukebox?" you may ask, as did I.
Jukeboxes did not evolve until the 1950's.

The original Peter's Cafe neon sign found in a local property and restored.

File pic of the original glass signage sent away for restoration.

Rosco, Chris, Sally and Todd.

As we find in many country towns some buildings have murals painted on otherwise bland walls.
I have decided to dedicate a small part of my Blog to those unsung artists.

Coutts Crossing

Next stop, Coutts Crossing, a rural area 15 Kms south of Grafton.
We stayed with long time friends, John and Helen.

Helen filming the local wildlife.

John on his ride on. Getting ready for action.

With some help from Bob, his neighbour,
John had to fell a dead tree and re-stock the firewood supply.
The Red Gum was like a steel post.

Down it came, right on target.

We're leaving home

The shipping container is loaded....

bye to our neighbours, Nick and Cathy....

and we're off... first stop Murwillumbah.
Not very far but we needed to do a bit of business before leaving Queensland.

On The Road...

The Melaleuca Station Memorial Gardens and Crematorium down the road
from our first camp at Stotts Island Nature Reserve near Murwillumbah.

This used to be a railway station tourist attraction
and now has the most incredible display of topiary hedges we've seen.
