Wyoming

Bighorn Canyon National Recreational Area

This is the local swimming area of the lake.

We came across a few herds of wild mustang horses.

Boat ramp.

Devils Canyon

Cody

Cody is of course named after famous Buffalo Bill Cody. It is an old western town that still retains that bygone atmosphere.

Cody has images, statues, signs, museums and business names relating to Buffalo Bill everywhere you turn.

This old truck is parked in front of a hotel.

This museum is known to be the best in Cody. Apart from a large collection of memorabilia it houses one of the largest firearms collections I have seen to date.

The man himself.

A collection of his stage apparel.

A collection of Annie Oakley's stage apparel.

A few of the products the company Winchester produced.

In the courtyard there are a few raptors on display.

Each day outside the Irma pub they stage a street theatre ending in a gunfight. Here one of the actors gets out of his Mustang and practises his gun skills.

What does a biker do when he looses the use of his legs. He mounts a trike of course.

Walmart is a great free camp when you are on the move. Cody Walmart was no exception. The car park resembled an RV park. There was all sorts of rigs including this home made "teardrop" pulled by an old car. He followed his wife on a homemade trike with a cobra rear end.

Our neighbours had an impressive Newmar motor home with side storage for their 2 Harley Davidson's.

The Beartooth Highway is billed as one of the most scenic American Byways. It is the highest elevation highway in the northern Rockys.

Over the top there is still snow in mid summer.

Whats this?
Australian flags on top of Beartooth!

We crossed paths with a bunch of Cairns bikers that had attended Sturgess Bike Rally.

A viewing point at the end of a ridge.

Mountain lake.

Looking down into the valley that leads to Red Lodge.

The road lived up to its reputation offering beautiful vistas on every turn.

We met up with many bikers who attended the Sturgess Bike Rally.
Tamed by a squirrel.

I have been in awe of American road builders since we began to travel. Here there is a landslip and very loose gravel. The road cuts through on 3 levels. My thoughts are how did they get the geological stability to build the road here?

Red Lodge, MT
The Beartooth Highway ended at Red Lodge, Montana where we had lunch.

Outside Bone Daddy's custom bike shop are some of his choppers.

Thermopolis

Thermopolis as the name suggests, is a town with numerous hot springs. This is the Hot Springs State Park. Thermopolis claims to be the worlds largest hot springs.

Twisted rock wall in the park.

We stayed at the Fountain of Youth RV Park. They were drilling for oil in 1918 and hit a thermal spring, above. It flows at the rate of 4.9 million litres of 53 degree C  a day.

They constructed 3 pools for cooling. This is the 3rd largest hot mineral water pool in the world. I am pretty sure I knocked 10 years off my age during our time here.

Douglas

We stopped in Douglas and our camping spot was across the road from the Wyoming State Fair.
Here they have a fun competition called Dock Dogs.

The dogs run along a platform and leap into a long pool after a projectile. The longest jump wins. This day the winning dog dived 24 feet.

Our dog, Lucky, if she was still with us would have been a star in this competition.
